Hugo Boss is a popular brand for men’s wear. It not just creates men’s suits but has also expanded its business to men’s watches, shoes and even perfumes. But the company was not always so successful in fact it had a very rocky start. The company was created by Hugo Ferdinand Boss in 1924 in Germany. Hugo started his own clothing line but soon the company had to file for bankruptcy when the country fell into the economic depression. After working hard for many years, Hugo decided to make one more attempt at a men’s designer business and opened up his new business in 1931.Hugo Boss became an open supporter of the Nazis and his business grew with the Nazi’s influence in Germany. Hugo became the official designer of the uniforms for the Nazis. But when Germany lost the war and Nazis lost their power, Hugo was branded as a Nazi supporter and was heavily fined. Soon afterwards Hugo died leaving a struggling business behind.
The company Hugo Boss had created continued to work even after his death. Instead of taking sides in politics and designing uniforms, the company now focused on dressing men up fashionably for all occasions. In 1953 the company released its first suit for men, which was an immediate hit in the market. The company continued gaining popularity because of its unique and trendy designs and in 1970’s Hugo Boss became a name everyone recognized in the fashion world.Slowly the company expanded its business. Apart from designing men’s wear the company also started its own line of women clothing. In 1993 Hugo Boss launched its perfume line as well which was a huge success and is one of the rapidly growing divisions of the company. Even in the clothing, several new divisions sprung up such as Boss Orange, Boss Black and Additional Boss Green. The company separated its formal wear from the informal wear and sportswear. Currently you can find everything from tuxedos to sports jackets at the nearest Hugo Boss store.
